The 5k & 10k took place April 17th. The run was a huge success this year with 420 people registered, 20 from the Active Military and Law Enforcement, the largest amount of participants so far. Runners from all over participated in 12 age categories and active Military and Law Enforcement. More...

Only property owners and permanent residents of Oak Island can obtain a decal. If you qualified to receive a decal you can pick one up at the Oak Island Police Department. You must provide proof of residence or property ownership, for example: Power Bill, you also have to bring in your Drivers License and registration for the vehicle that the decal is going on. Even people that live in South Harbor and other Oak Island annexed are entitled to receive a decal. More...

Local Dredging and Beach Re-nourishment is moving right along. This sand project began in early February when Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company arrived to dredge the channel to the Wilmington Harbor. By the time the projects end, they will have dredged roughly 1.3 Million cubic yards of sand, which workers have spread on to the beach starting at the border of the N.C. Baptist Assembly and will go as far as 76th Street. The current work is going on around Yaupon Beach at 76th Street. By early next week they will be moving back to the Yaupon pier area and will remain there for about a week, then the remainder of the time on Caswell Beach. They have already added over seven feet of sand to the beach. The most visual difference is at the Yaupon pier. More...

The 11th Annual 5K & 10K will be taking place April 18th, 2009 at 8:30 am. The 10K will begin with an incline as it crosses the Oak Island Bridge. And then will wind through neighborhoods of sprawling oak trees and Yaupon Hollies, and then suddenly opens up to the beach, ocean and the sounds of seagulls. More...
